In a liposuction procedure, fat is surgically removed through small incisions. There are several different types of liposuction, performed with different types of anesthesia, including local anesthetic, intravenous sedation, and general anesthesia. Dr. White will recommend the most appropriate procedure and anesthesia in a custom-tailored Aventura Liposuction treatment.
Numbing fluid will be placed in the targeted area, and Dr. White will use a cannula (thin, hollow tube) to break up the fat and detach it from the surrounding structures. The fat is then extracted from the area with a vacuum system or syringe attached to the cannula. You will wear a compression garment after surgery to help control swelling, bruising, and fluid retention in the treatment area, and to help the skin mold around the body’s new contours. Dr. White may place temporary drains in the small incisions required for the procedure to help remove excess blood and fluids.
Liposuction can be performed alone or in combination with other procedures, such as a breast lift, thigh lift, or tummy tuck, to sculpt a slimmer, sleeker body with more graceful lines.
